Maryanna Cox began her health care career at Coldwater Regional Hospital in September 1976 after completing school to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN). Shortly after beginning her career, she transferred to the surgery department as a surgery technician and fell in love with the environment, staff and quick-paced job.
The most notable change Maryanna has seen in her career has been the stay of patients after surgery. “When I first started in surgery, everything was done with large incisions and long hospital stays,” she explains. “Patients didn’t go home the same day with the exception of some procedures like gastrointestinal endoscopies. Even cataract surgery required an overnight stay!”
Being in the surgery department, Maryanna has assisted with a variety of surgeries. Her favorite and most memorable occurred on obstetrics with C-sections. She recalls, “Those moments of joy when parents first see their child were the most rewarding.”
