Full Time : M – F, with Rotating Weekend Call
Job Summary:
The staff Registered Nurse (or Graduate Nurse) is a professional care giver who assumes responsibility and accountability for designated patients for an assigned time period and provides care to these patients through the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides direct nursing care for specified patients, including appropriate supportive care and administration of chemotherapy, blood components, fluid and electrolyte replacements, and other oncology treatments as prescribed.
- Performs nursing assessments and triage of patient care needs for new and ongoing patients.
- Provides education to patients, families, and significant others; acts as an information resource to students, health care professionals, patients, and the public.
- Provides family support as required, including applicable referrals and bereavement counseling.
- Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
- May train and guide other nursing and support staff engaged in clinical activities; may participate in research and related activities.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience :
- Current licensure in the State of Michigan. BLS is required for all RN positions.
- Must Complete antineoplastic/immunotherapy training within 3 months of hire.
- Complete OCN certification within 2 years of hire.
Special equipment, skills or other requirements:
- BLS certification within six months of employment.
- Certification preferred, but required within 2 years of hire for those administering antineoplastic medications.
