POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of a Radiologist, performs complex professional procedures for the diagnosis and treatments of patients. Obtains high-quality images, which are interpreted by a Radiologist in the evaluation of disease and abnormality. Assists Radiologists or other staff physicians in the performance of diagnostic radiologic procedures whenever required. Acts as a lead technologist, providing guidance and support to the radiology team and ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills to utilize radiologic equipment, PACS, computerized imaging, and the radiology info system. Select proper technical factors based on age, size, weight, and anatomical differences and general health status of various age groups.
- Utilizing proper radiation protection, accessory devices, and age-appropriate immobilizers to produce high-quality radiographic images under the philosophy of A.L.A.R.A. Captures images by means of computed or digital radiography. Evaluates images for diagnostic quality.
- Under the direction of a physician, demonstrates knowledge and ability to administer and document contrast and IV contrast according to standards for patients of all ages. Assists radiologists and physicians in the performance of diagnostic radiologic procedures with patients of all ages performing support functions.
- Demonstrates the ability and knowledge to identify educational needs, obtain patient history, and provide information in easily understood terminology with a clear communication style about procedures and care to patients of various ages.
- Determines appropriateness of the procedure based on the above.
- Demonstrates competency in using the radiology information and imaging system (RIS, PACS, etc.) for the purpose of correctly ordering exams, supplies, and other data input.
- Competent in the use of the following equipment and physical comfort measures and psychosocial issues when giving care to include neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients:
- Radiographic equipment
- Fluoroscopic equipment
- Portable equipment
- General radiographic procedures
- Demonstrates awareness of safety standards for self and assigned area. Follows the organization’s mission and values of customer service.
- Acts as a lead technologist by providing guidance, training, and mentorship to radiology staff, ensuring compliance with established procedures, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Collaborates with department leadership to coordinate schedules, manage workflow, and address operational challenges, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
- Monitors equipment functionality, initiates maintenance or repair requests as needed, and ensures the availability of necessary supplies and resources.
- Performs other related duties/tasks as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completed formal radiologic technology training at an AMA-approved school.
Skills:
- Must be able to maintain accurate records and adjust to the use of new methods, techniques, and equipment.
- Must be able to cope with stressful situations and handle deadlines in a demanding, fast-paced medical environment.
- Must be able to understand directions, communicate, and respond to inquiries; requires effective interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to input and retrieve information from radiological or other medical equipment and computerized systems.
License:
- Registered and licensed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and the appropriate state licensing board.
- Advanced certification in additional modalities is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a radiologic technologist in a healthcare setting.
- Prior experience in a leadership or mentoring role within a radiology department is preferred.
Certification: CPR certified.
